FROM NWS December newsletter

”…It’s coming up to that time of year again (no, not just Christmas, although that's fast approaching too…)

It’s time for another of our NWS collections!

Over the course of a few difficult years, our topics have covered subjects that reflected those more challenging periods in time; ‘The World Outside’, ‘Reflections’, ‘Freedom?’

With our new theme for Spring 2023 we hope to inspire people to write about better times and positive outlooks using the prompt

MY HAPPY PLACE.

Live at Lunch

Tuesday's Live at Lunch was an exceptional celebration of exceptional work. It was magical being among old and newer friends at a favourite and much-loved venue again. Big thanks to Cathy, Barry for his excellent hosting, as usual, David, and everyone else who was there to read, support, listen or all of the above.

Being in such a grand building and meeting up with other writers again was wonderful! Listening ‘live‘ to poets reading their work was uplifting, emotional and entertaining. So many differing voices and topics. Thank you to everyone involved in arranging and reading at the event. It was inspiring… now, where’s that new note pad?!

Alpha Omega social chat

Thanks to Jeremy for excellent hosting, Angie who gave a lovely introduction and everyone else who shared or just came to listen. Last night's chat offered some creative ways for us to share our finished writing. We saw various examples, Illustrated hand made books of memories, illustrated poems, a poem embroidered on a cushion and even engraved on a grave marker. We also heard what sparked people's creative writing. Cathy's classes being one, in fact it was the spring board for a group of poets to collectively produce their own anthology. A collection of tea towels became the inspiration for another. Information and ideas on different ways to make our work accessible through traditional and non traditional methods were exchanged. I know I left feeling stimulated and with the incentive to explore some of these possibilities.
